Hey y’all,
So yeah, the Big Beautiful Bill Act passed. Just in time for Independence Day. Because nothing says freedom like slashing benefits for people trying to survive. Philly’s loud right now. The country’s louder. And with all this noise, confusion, and red, white, and nonsense; this week’s Free-ish Weekend is all about wellness.
That means no Fourth of July events listed here. Not because I’m judging those who celebrate — but because I just don’t. I never have. Maybe it’s because I grew up learning about things like the MOVE bombings while other kids were learning patriotic songs. Maybe it’s because I’ve always known how fragile “freedom” really is for Black folks. Either way, I honor my roots, not the rockets.
So instead of fireworks, here’s what you will find: ten free (or almost free) events to help you reset, restore, and reclaim some peace. Think yoga in the park, healing circles, art therapy pop-ups — the kind of stuff that reminds your body it’s safe to be here.
